چکیده

A strong-coupling expansion is applied to the anharmonic Holstein model and to the Holstein-Hubbard model through fourth order in the hopping matrix element. Mean-field theory is then employed to determine transition temperatures of the effective (pseudospin) Hamiltonian. We find that anharmonic effects are not easily mimicked by an on-site Coulomb repulsion, and that anharmonicity strongly favors superconductivity relative to charge-density-wave order. Surprisingly, the phase diagram is strongly modified by relatively small values of the anharmonicity. Typeset using REVTEX c © 1996 by the authors. Strong-coupling expansions for the attractive Holstein and Hubbard models.

A strong-coupling expansion for the Holstein (electron-phonon) model is carried out through fourth order. In the large frequency limit the expansion agrees with known results for the attractive Hubbard model. Mean-eld theory is employed to determine transition temperatures of the eeective (pseudospin) Hamiltonian and the results are compared with recent Monte Carlo simulations of these models i...

First - and Second Order Phase Transitions in the Holstein - Hubbard Model

– We investigate metal-insulator transitions in the half-filled Holstein-Hubbard model as a function of the on-site electron-electron interaction U and the electron-phonon coupling g. We use several different numerical methods to calculate the phase diagram, the results of which are in excellent agreement. When the electron-electron interaction U is dominant the transition is to a Mott-insulato...

Weak-coupling expansions for the attractive Holstein and Hubbard models.

Weak-coupling expansions (conserving approximations) are carried out for the attractive Holstein and Hubbard models (on an infinite-dimensional hypercubic lattice) that include all bandstructure and vertex correction effects. Quantum fluctuations are found to renormalize transition temperatures by factors of order unity, but may be incorporated into the superconducting channel of Migdal-Eliashb...

Renormalization of the electron-phonon coupling in the one-band Hubbard model

We investigate the effect of electronic correlations on the coupling of electrons to Holstein phonons in the one-band Hubbard model. We calculate the static electron-phonon vertex within the linear response of Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave bosons in the paramagnetic saddle-point approximation. Within this approach the on-site Coulomb interaction U strongly suppresses the coupling to Holstein phonon...

Phase diagram of the Holstein-Hubbard two-leg ladder using a functional renormalization-group method

Using a functional renormalization-group method, we obtain the phase diagram of the two-leg ladder system within the Holstein-Hubbard model, which includes both electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions. Our renormalization-group technique allows us to analyze the problem for both weak and strong electronphonon couplings. We show that, in contrast to results from conventional weak-coup...
